As Sudan Archives, violinist, singer, songwriter, and producer Brittney Parks combines left-field strains of R&B, hip-hop, people, and digital music with the fiddling fashion of West Africa.

The self-taught musician began taking part in violin as a teenager in her native Cincinnati. Parks’ step-father, a former music government who had labored with L.A. Reid and Babyface, primed Parks and her twin sister to turn out to be a teen pop act, however, the effort was short-lived.

After Parks moved to Los Angeles, she began producing beats on a pill laptop with the addition of her vocals and strings, the latter more and more impressed by immersion in Sudanese music. Parks later met producer and A&R Matthewdavid, which led to cope with Stones Throw, the label that launched the artist’s debut EP in 2017
