British singer/songwriter Alfie Templeman taps into youthful sincerity while displaying a talent for performing, production and songwriting ability beyond his years. 
 Born in 2003 to a musical family in Bedfordshire — his father was an avid collector of guitars and his younger sister plays saxophone — it wasn’t long before Templeman began playing himself. He started with drum lessons at age seven but gravitated toward guitar, teaching himself how to use recording software by the time he was 13 and then going on to teach himself another 10 instruments. In 2018, he had already put together his debut EP, Like an Animal, which saw release on Chess Club; Templeman was 15 at the time. 
 Next up is Alfie’s debut album, “Mellow Moon”, to be released in 2022. Recorded at just 17 and inspired by modern influences like Steve Lacy, Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, as well as Alfie’s constant cosmic guide Todd Rundgren, Mellow Moon flows with an ease that belies its difficult creation. “If people want to put my songs in their playlists or on the radio then that’s great but I do love a proper album,” he says, “so even though I didn’t set out to make an album this collection of songs has real meaning. The songs wouldn’t be on there if they didn’t. It’s a moment in my life that I want to remember forever. I’ve put so much effort into this and it’s a real experience to listen to.”
